Isabelle Boffey broke through in a big way Friday night at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic, winning the women's invitational 800 meters in 1 minute, 57.43 seconds, the eight-fastest indoor performance in world history.

Boffey, a British athlete representing New Balance, went through her last 400 in 59.92 seconds, with a 29.54 last 200, for the win after trailing in second to American Roisin Willis in the first 600 meters. Boffey's time is now second to Olympic champion Keeley Hodgkinson (1:57.18) on the British all-time list.

And while Willis did finish second to Boffey, her time of 1:57.97 bested Ajee Wilson's American record of 1:58.29, becoming the first American woman to break 1:58 for the indoor 800. Willis led through the first 400 in 56.95 and finished the latter in 61.03.

Clemson's Gladys Chepngetich, third to Boffey and Willis, ran an NCAA No. 2 all-time effort of 1:58.81. Athing Mu-Nikolayev of Texas A&M holds the collegiate record of 1:58.40.

Harvard's Sophia Gorriaran ran the third-fastest 1,000 time in collegiate history in 2:38.75 to win the women's open race. Charlize-Trinity McKenize (Cedarburg WI) finished second in 2:43.63, seventh all-time in high school history.

Annika Reiss of Under Armour Dark Sky Distance won the women's invitational mile in 4:24.38, good for world No. 2 this indoor season. Stanford's Juliette Whittaker finished ninth in 4:30.97 as the top collegian.

Katie Snowden, another Brit representing Nike, ran 8:39.89 in the women's invitational 3,000, beating Elsabet Amare of adidas by four seconds. Marion Jepngetich of New Mexico was the top collegian, running 8:48.98 for third.

Minnesota Distance Elite's Elena Hayday out-kicked Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge in the women's invitational 5,000, running 15:30.94 to get the win. Colorado's Abbey Nechanicky took third in 15:42.12, finishing as the top collegian.
