Diamond League Prize Money Boost
The Wanda Diamond League will increase prize money in 2025, with the introduction of "Diamond+ Disciplines," offering up to $20,000 at series meetings and $50,000 at the Final. Total prize money across the series will reach $9.24 million, with an additional $6 million invested in athlete services such as travel, accommodation, and medical support.
Kiplimo vs. Aregawi in Madrid
Jacob Kiplimo and defending champion Berihu Aregawi will face off at the San Silvestre Vallecana 10k in Madrid on December 31. Kiplimo set the course record (26:41) in 2018. The race will feature over 40,000 participants but remains ineligible for record purposes due to course design.
Mondo Duplantis for Berlin ISTAF Indoor
World record-holder Mondo Duplantis will compete at the ISTAF Indoor in Berlin on February 14. He will face Olympic medallists Sam Kendricks and Emmanouil Karalis, alongside six-meter vaulter KC Lightfoot. Duplantis holds the meet record (6.06m) from his Berlin victories in 2022 and 2023.
Valby and Neugebauer Win Bowerman Awards
Parker Valby and Leo Neugebauer were named 2024 Bowerman winners. Neugebauer set a German decathlon record (8961 points) and earned Olympic silver, while Valby dominated NCAA 5000m/10,000m events and qualified for the Paris Olympics 10,000m.
Grand Slam Track Racers Finalized
The final five racers for the 2025 Grand Slam Track season include Ethiopia's Diribe Welteji (800/1500m), USA’s Brittany Brown (100/200m), Zharnel Hughes (GBR, 100/200m), Freddie Crittenden (110m hurdles/100m), and Caleb Dean (400m hurdles/400m). The GST season spans April to June across Kingston, Miami, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles.
Coach Eyes Records for Keely Hodgkinson
Jenny Meadows expressed confidence that Keely Hodgkinson could break the indoor 800m world record next winter, targeting the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing and the World Championships in Tokyo. Meadows predicted Hodgkinson could hit 1:53 outdoors by 2025, edging closer to the 1:53.28 world record.
